The Bette Davis Club by Jane Lotter
Martini-loving Margo accepts the challenge and the fifty thousand dollars her half-sister offers as a reward to find her niece, Georgia, who has fled the area moments before she was to be married. Margo has a soft spot for Georgia and even though you would never guess Margo in “her” stylish Donna Karen dress needed the money. She does. She desperately does.
So, off she goes in her father’s restored red MG with the jilted groom, Tully, to find her niece. What ensues is a hysterically entertaining adventure through Palm Springs, Chicago, and New York.
While the humor is my favorite thing about this book, the characters are fun, imperfect, and unexpected and the plot is unique, entertaining and surprising. The most moving part of the whole book comes at the very beginning. In the dedication.
Jane Lotter wrote this novel and was trying desperately to get it published in 2013 when she passed away. Several months later Lake Union Publishing contacted Jane’s family about publishing Jane’s book. Her daughter, Tessa, wrote the dedication. Jane’s words and humor live on.
