I’d Rather Be Reading by Anne Bogel

The first book I read this year is I’d Rather be Reading by Anne Bogel. I mean really, Book lovers, is there a book more aptly titled for us? If you have never heard of Anne, she is the author of the very popular blog, The Modern Mrs. Darcy, and the voice of the very entertaining podcast, What Should I read Next?  If you are a bookstagrammer, book blogger, reader, bookworm, or book lover I’m sure you know and love Anne’s work and words. Her book, I’d Rather Be Reading, is an additional delight and one that so many of you out there in book land would not only relate to, but you would also love.

Anne talks about her own path to book love and the path worn down between her home and the library next door. (Yes, she lived next to a library!) She discusses how personal the act of reading can be and how complicated it may feel to choose the next book to read. All topics readers like us can understand. Anne also writes about finding just the right book at just the right time and how impactful that can be. (For me it was Operating Instructions by Anne Lamott in 1996). But what I loved most about her book was her recognition of how good it is to be among book people. To be around people who read and to feel connected on this level of book love. I couldn’t help but think about all of you book lovers out there who have recommended books to me, enthusiastically liked books I’ve posted about and excitedly listed your own favorite reads. It is great to be around you all, even if we are all over the world, we are connected through this amazing wonderful quirky thing called book love.
