The Second Ending by Michelle Hoffman

The Second Ending easily slid into my top ten favorite books of all time.

Thi book has humor, love, and characters that readers will love and love to hate. Prudence Childs, a once famous child piano prodigy, must return to competition and save everything she has worked so hard to create. Her competition is Alexei Petrov, a highly skilled Russian born pianist with just as much to lose and maybe more to gain. The much anticipated televised duel pushes each contestant to discover things about themselves that they may have forgotten or never have known.

I loved Michelle Hoffman’s creative humor and subtle lessons about life. Her writing is beautiful, insightful and heartwarming. I found myself underlining meaningful sections with significant wisdom throughout the book. So many, too many to list here but here are a few:

“Without his own mistakes, he could not make his own decisions…”

“It’s not the shit you did that you regret, it’s the shit you didn’t do.”

But my absolute favorite can be found on page 329. It reads:

“When someone believes in us, it unlocks something inside.”
