The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

Transported. If I could only use one word to to describe this gripping historical fiction novel this would be it. In The Nightingale, Kristin Hannah describes 1940’s France and events of World War II so vividly it will make you feel as if you are there. One day you will be dodging bullets or on the run with Isabelle, the next you will be rooting for her sister, Vivienne, as she silently rebells and does whatever it takes to protect the children. There are many books set in this time period—often about men and the trials of war. The Nightingale is different because it’s a story about women and the war that they fought. It’s about the amazing resilience and strength of women in the face of insurmountable odds. I highly recommend The Nightingale- but If you choose this for your next read be prepared for a trip. This gripping story of survival will transport you.
