What is Women’s Fiction?

What is women’s fiction? Well, as defined by the Women’s Fiction Writers Association, the driving force of women's fiction is the protagonist's journey toward a more fulfilled self. These types of stories are my very favorite. They are books like Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus, The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd, and Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. They are stories about women often by women that entertain, inspire, and uplift.

As a women’s fiction reader and writer, I was thrilled to find the Women’s Fiction Writers Association a few years ago. Through their conferences, webinars, and resources I have not only learned a tremendous amount about writing in the genre, but I’ve also made friends that inspire and encourage me along this creative journey. Joining this amazingly inclusive organization has been one of the best things I’ve done for my writing and for myself.
